P. G. WODEHOUSE AND ME

Subject: 100 POINTS!

You don’t know it, Kathie, but you just garnered me 100 points, for which I thank you very much – all due to the Clock Game invented by me and my clock.
I glanced at the time of your call.  It was 2:22.  Any three numbers like that, 1:11, 4:44, 5:55, 6:66 (Whoops, there is no 6:66) are valued at 100 points.
August birthdays rate a 10, i.e. 8:04 (Ernestine); 8:08 (Ted); 8:14 (Aunt Janeth); 8:17 (me); 8:21 (my father-in-law); and 8:28 (kkmalley, my darling daughter).
As much as I’d like to, I can’t ignore 9:11, but I can punish it with a paltry 1 point for reminding me.  Rating five points are numbers like 2:02; 3:03; 4:04 on up to 10:10, 11:11, and 12:12.
As P. G. Wodehouse would put it, this game may seem silly because it is.  By the way, I find I’m enjoying Plum’s bio, A Life in Letters a lot more since I abandoned religiously reading every fucking footnote (Sorry, couldn’t resist the second alliteration).

Love,
Mom

P.S.  I just returned to my bedroom to pee (in the bathroom), looked at the clock, and won 25 points for 3:00.  A glance on my desktop below has delighted me with another 5 points:  3:03.
It’s time to get out my calculator.
