(17) HE WAS, YOU MIGHT SAY, "OYSTRACIZED" BY HIS RELATIONS.

THE OYSTER

Beneath the sea so wild and rude,
A melancholy oyster
Once dwelt in lonely solitude
Inside his clammy cloister.
He didn't own a single "fin!"
Poor fish! With sad emotion
He envied all his scornful kin
That swam the stormy ocean.

The oyster knew he was despised
By all of his relations.
He was, you might say, "oystracized"
By upper-crust crustaceans!

And then it happened, one fine day,
A gritty granule nicked him.
It hurt him more than words can say --
O, how it plagued its victim!

Unable to dislodge the grain,
He left it where he found it,
But goaded by his grievous pain,
He built a pear around it!
Now he was rich! The tidings flew,
And soon his rank was stellar.
All fin-land knew (and envied, too)
This little Rocky-feller.

So, reader, don't give up and quit
When life seems sad and shoddy.
Remember this, a little grit
Is good for everybody!
